Hold My Heart
How long must I pray, must I pray to You?
How long must I wait, must I wait for You?
How long ‘til I see Your face, see You shining through?
I’m on my knees, begging You to notice me.
I’m on my knees, Father will you turn to me?
One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breakin’ heart?
One light, that’s all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You’re everything You say You are
Won’t You come close and hold my heart
I’ve been so afraid, afraid to close my eyes
So much can slip away before I say goodbye.
But if there’s no other way, I’m done asking why.
Cuz I’m on my knees, begging You to turn to me
I’m on my knees, Father will you run to me?
One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breakin’ heart?
One light, that’s all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You’re everything You say You are
Won’t You come close and hold my heart.
So many questions without answers, Your promises remain
I can’t sleep but I’ll take my chances to hear You call my name
To hear You call my name
One tear in the driving rain,
One voice in a sea of pain
Could the maker of the stars
Hear the sound of my breakin’ heart?
One light, that’s all I am
Right now I can barely stand
If You’re everything You say You are
Won’t You come close and hold my heart.
Hold my heart, could you hold my heart?
Hold my heart.
I really love the words to this song. It seems that why would God pay attention to some one as insignificant as me. I’m just just one little drop of rain in the downpour. I’m one little voice in a crowd of billions. How can a God who breathes stars hear my breaking heart? The thing is He can hear each individuals needs and prayers, that is why he is soo amazing. All we need to to is give up our broken heart and let Him fix it, he is just waiting for us. The parable of the prodical son come to my mind when I hear this song. We are the son who ran off and fell into a hole we could never get out by ourselves. We come before God fightened and humbled, then we confess we were wrong and hope that He does not scorn us and punish us. But God , being as loving as he is, wraps us in the most loving hug we could ever experience and prepares a feast to welcome us back into his house. We should never be afraid to ask God for help and challenge Him to rise up and be everything He says he is.
Footprints in the Sand One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. So I said to the Lord, “You promised me Lord, that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there have only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?” The Lord replied, “My Precious, Precious child. The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand, is when I carried you.”
This poem sort of links to this song. We notice through the struggles in our lives, when it seems we are all alone, God is the one that carries us through everything. I love that God never scorned him for accusing Him of deserting him, instead he tells him in a loving voice that he carried him through all of his difficulties. We should never be afraid to say we are wrong and accept help. It is time for us to give up our broken hearts to be mended by God. Lets not wait till we are crawling on our knees begging for help but to ask for help whenever the need arises. Give God you burden and he will comfort the pain, He is the most loving God you can EVER find!
